Identity theft is easy unless your business takes steps to prevent it.
The UK’s Fraud Prevention Service show that there were 89,000 victims of identity theft in the UK 2010 compared with 2009 where there were 85,000 victims.
Identity fraud now accounts for nearly half of all frauds recorded.
Information protection is the law
In the United Kingdom personal data is protected by the Data Protection Act 1998. The Act covers all personal data which an organization may hold, including names, birthday and anniversary dates, addresses, telephone numbers, etc.
All confidential information must be protected, and completely destroyed, when no longer needed.
Get it Shredded!
The most secure method of document destruction is shredding. Once paper has been properly shredded, it can’t be reconstructed again. (Keep in mind that identity thieves have been known to painstakingly put hand-torn documents back together again.)
